Around And Around

My week of red carpets...

On Monday I made up Sophia Bush for the premiere of Green Hornet.

Her lashes are stunning!  I used DiorShow Extase mascara with Ardell individual lashes.

Wednesday I made up Chloë Sevigny for the premiere of Big Love.

The orangey red shade on her lips is MAC Lady Danger.

Sunday night I made up Thor actress Jaimie Alexander for the InStyle Golden Globes party.

Her powdery pink lips are NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Roman Holiday.

I hope this gives you some fun ideas for your own makeup!

Wildcat!

I really love Emma Watson's make up on the cover of Elle UK.

Here's a great video from behind the scenes of the shoot that includes an interview with the make up artist, Sharon Dowsett. (Sharon is another "make up artist to obsess over"... she is responsible for the MAC/Ungaro colab and my favorite cream color of all time, Crushed Bougainvillea!)

I'm always a sucker for the juxtaposition of heavy eye make up with a baby face. I love that she put gloss on her lids. That's one of my favorite little tricks to get the perfectly messy rock n roll look.

Day N Night

Just a few things I'm obsessing over right now...

Scarlett Johansson on the cover of French Vogue

How freaking amazing does she look? As far as I'm concerned, she just regained HBIC status!

This is an amazing product! One of those things I wish I had thought of! Put it over a cream lip colour and take down the shine! I've been using it a lot over the past few days and I LOVE it!

I haven't used it long enough to experience the firming benefits, but the silky formula leaves skin hydrated with a very light, amazing scent. I tested it on my arm the other night and couldn't stop sniffing my skin! My fiance thought I was losing my mind. I kept saying "smell my arm!". Ok, crazy.

M.A.C. Peppermint Patti Nail Varnish

and Saint Germain lipstick from the new Sugarsweet collection

The nail varnish looks like it's straight off the Chanel runway, and the lipstick is very similar to Melrose Mood from the Heatherette collection (which was totally limited, and is TOTALLY gone!)

Argyle and Houndstooth! Another Minx + Cal Gel combo!

M.A.C.'s new Sugarsweet collection features a great mint green varnish called Peppermint Patti

You Have To Believe We Are Magic

Last night I had the privilege of attending Kabuki's Los Angeles MAC Pro master class. Kabuki is a genius and a true inspiration of mine which makes him one of those "make up artists to obsess over"...

Kabuki's background in textiles gives him a unique ability to work with texture. Like another favorite of mine, Pat McGrath, he often uses things that AREN'T "make up" to achieve a look.

Besides the amazing video I posted here, these are a few of my favorite images of his...

At the class we watched as Kabuki did three different make up looks. I always love to watch other make up artists work and see a different way of doing things, but this was BANANAS! At the end he took questions, and mostly people asked how he made the different pieces he used. Finally he said "you guys are gonna copy me!" Ha ha! I know how he feels! So on that note... make sure you are "inspired" by other's work, don't just copy it! :)

And a huuuuge THANK YOU to MAC cosmetics (and especially Monique Boyer!) for their support of the professional artist and for always helping to extend our education!

Sittin Here Flossin

And now I have Rosario in color!

Something making a comeback in my make up kit lately has been MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack.

I love the texture and the color stays true. A thin line at the root of your lashes can really give your eyes a great pop!

Like I Love You

I'm sooo excited because today I shot an amazing editorial for one of my favorite magazines.  To give you a hint, it's towards the top of my "required reading" section.  We went all over Los Angeles to shoot it.  I'm tired and I'm sunburned, but I'm looking forward to getting up tomorrow and doing it all over again!

In other news I'm still totally obsessed with Lykke Li...

Also loving...

The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living

I guess I'm not the only one obsessed with grey nail varnish anymore!

Nylon is calling it the first big nail shade of '08.

In other news, M.A.C. launched their Fafi collection today, and I got to see it up close and personal at the pro store on Robertson.

They also made a really cute website for the Fafi collection at www.macfafi.com, and if you want to know more about Fafi, go to www.fafi.net. She's been one of my favorite grafitti artists for awhile and the fact that she's teamed up with M.A.C. is mind blowingly AWESOME!

In Other M.A.C. News...

My favorite fashion blog, fashionista, has the scoop on Heatherette for M.A.C.

Sounds cute, but I think I'm more excited for Fafi!

Street Art Meets Beauty

I just found out about a collaboration I can really get behind!  MAC cosmetics has teamed up with famed French graffiti artist Fafi on a CUTE new collection! I CAN NOT WAIT FOR THIS!!! (It's the best news I've heard all year... *rimshot*)

You may already know Fafi animated Lily Allen for the Mark Ronson video "Oh My God"... (and I looove the lashes!)

Cordial Invitation

My good buddy Dan snagged one of these M.A.C. gift bags for me from the Paper Magazine Party on Tuesday night...  My invitation must have gotten lost in the mail *ahem*...

(photo via The Cobra Snake)

It was filled with amazing goodies like false lashes, liquid eyeliner, brow pencils, and lipstick. What a nice surprise!!!  I'm so lucky to have nice friends like Dan!

P.S.  Dan also makes cool shirts.  You should buy one!

Whole lot of Pretty going on! (Part Four, the conclusion!)

Now on to cheek color... I am not a big fan of contouring unless absolutely necessary! Stripey cheeks = yuck! My theory on cheek color is that it should mimic your natural flush. I try to stick to the apples of the cheeks! I'm a big fan of cream blushes, as well as powder blushes... Here are just a few of my favorites...

Stila Convertible Color (you can use it on lips as well...)

(I know this was designed with contouring in mind... Let's just say I prefer to "layer" the colors... shhh!)

I'm also really looking forward to trying...

mark. Be Scene Blush Crème Cheek Color

And on to bronzer... Proceed with caution Ladies (and gents...)... Bronzer is not for everyone!

My favorite bronzer of all time (and possibly my most prized make up posession) is my Tom Ford for Estee Lauder bronzer.

It is beautiful beautiful BEAUTIFUL! Tom Ford is the man. My friend Rebecca and I were talking about Tom Ford just the other day and she said "How does one man have so much taste?" My answer.. "I just don't know!" It's pretty ridiculous. He is my hero.
As I've mentioned in a past blog, this collection was extremely limited and is no longer available. I see them pop up from time to time on eBay, but the price is not for the faint of heart.

But back to Benefit... They make two really great bronzers.... Dallas

and Hoola

Dallas is a bronzer/blush combo, and Hoola is a matte bronzer.  Both are fantastic and I highly recommend them!

Now for the lips...
Let's talk about lip liner... I'm not a fan. I use it when I have to, but again, this is somewhere to tread lightly...  Overdrawn lips with obvious liner can be a real bummer!

M.A.C. and Stila both make excellent lip liners. I'm sure other lines do, as well...

Lips Lips Lips...
I love it all... lipstick, gloss, stains... love it... Here are a few of my faves...

Chanel...
My Chanel Lipsticks

are also among my prized make up posessions.  The colors are so beautiful and the textures are so rich!

The formula of Nars Lipsticks is absolutely magical.

A lot of my music clients love these because when they are performing, it doesn't get "gummy".
My Nars lip palette is also among my favorite things in my kit.

Scott Barnes Lip Slick is an amazing product.

The colors are beautiful. Scott Barnes is a make up genius.  He brought the nude glossy lip back into fashion with the looks he did on Jennifer Lopez, and now you can have that look as well.

M.A.C. Lipstick

They are all amazing. A lot of thought and attention has gone into the formulas. They have great texture, pigment, and even taste!

And let's not forget my favorite lip plumper, City Lips!

Finish off your look with DuWop Revolotion.

It evens out your skin tone and gives it a nice shimmer. It smells great too!

Another great body make up suggestion is Body Bling by Scott Barnes.

This, too, is something he created whilst working for Miss J Lo.  She always looked amazing when he was working with her and now he's sharing his formulas with us!

I hope you've enjoyed my product suggestions! I look forward to hearing what you think, and what your favorite products are!

In the coming weeks I will be highlighting my favorite brushes, and giving you a peek inside my make up kit!
