I'm Gonna Be A Supermodel

As you may know, I've been working on expanding this blog and taking it to a new platform that will include more user interaction. Well, to do it right takes time, and I want to do it right, so thanks for your patience!  There's so much I want to tell you in the meantime, so I've decided to keep updating during the transition!

Quite awhile ago a lovely makeup artist named Mae was assisting me and gave me some amazing lashes that a friend of hers had brought back from a trip to Asia. They were a brand called MODEL 21 and they were amazing!  I loved the shape, they were really full in the middle instead of the outer corners... Great for a dramatic look! I was OB-sessed.

(photos courtesy of dgsbeauty)

I kept them tucked away in my kit and only used them for very special occasions like this photo shoot with Karmin

and this shoot with Mischa Barton...

(just some behind the scenes instagrams)

Well, the sad day came that I ran out of the lashes, but little did I realize the entire time I was hoarding them away there was a website address right on the box! www.model21eyelashes.com

I've already placed 2 orders!

The lashes are very reasonably priced and come 10 pairs to a box. Right now they offer free shipping when you buy 3 boxes, if you buy 4 boxes, they throw in a free box of lashes (of their choosing).

Well, now you have your marching orders!  They're a small company, so let's try not to crash their website!

UPDATE:  The first order I placed with MODEL 21 arrived today!

Cute new packaging, same great lashes!

Girls Allowed

Here are some shots from the i-D magazine editorial I did with Nadine Coyle from Girls Aloud.

She was so lovely.  She brought along some of the false lashes she designed for Eylure, in case I wanted to use them for the shoot. I popped them on and it was love at first sight!

If you're in the US, you can purchase the entire line of Girls Aloud lashes on ASOS.

They Call Me Quiet Girl

I did the make up on The Ting Tings video for "That's Not My Name" directed by the amazing duo of AlexandLiane... It premiers today on MTV but you can watch it right here!  (Make sure you click on the "settings" button to watch in HIGH quality!)

Katie's look was achieved with Shu Uemura Luxe Lashes

and Shu Uemura Pressed Eye Shadow in Gray 950
and Black 990
Katie's also wearing a custom lip colour I created by mixing a few of my favorite lipsticks with a creamy concealer. Try making your own custom colours. The possibilities are endless!

I Wanna Be Your Dog

I know I haven't been here much lately, not only did my laptop crash and burn, I've been really busy doing some amazing work.  I've done cool music videos with The Ting Tings (there's a little MTV article here), and Uffie.  I did some cool shoots with Scott Weiland, worked with an actress from the new movie Twilight, an actress from 90210, and an actress from Heroes.  I did a magazine cover with Victoria's Secret model Angela Lindvall using all eco friendly products (more on that later, but for now visit green make up artist)... Shot a tennis player with Claire and Jeremy, did a cool underwater shoot with Dan Monick, did another Playstation ad, got to work with Jason Nocito, Autumn De Wilde, and did quite a few amazing shoots with Alex Prager...

I've also continued my never ending search for the perfect pair of false lashes!  I've found gypsy lashes!  Their website is really out dated, but the lashes are amazing and can be found at Cinema Secrets.  I must warn you though, my favorite pair are #96, so I braved the Halloween crowd and purchased the last four pairs they had.

Other than that, life is great!  Here's a shoot I did with Cory Kennedy for Foam magazine (shot by Dan Monick).

And here are some Lee Jeans ads I did with Brooke Nipar.

Also, it's kind of late notice, but my friends at WeSC are having a party today.  It's sure to go off, so if you live in LA you should go!

Like I Love You

I'm sooo excited because today I shot an amazing editorial for one of my favorite magazines.  To give you a hint, it's towards the top of my "required reading" section.  We went all over Los Angeles to shoot it.  I'm tired and I'm sunburned, but I'm looking forward to getting up tomorrow and doing it all over again!

In other news I'm still totally obsessed with Lykke Li...

Also loving...

Custom blended Lilac lip colour

Lula Issue 6

and M.A.C. #7 lashes

Getting Prettier... (Part Three)

And now for the brows... Brows are very important, but often overlooked. The brows frame the face, so make sure they look beautiful! Would you hang a beautiful piece of art on your wall with a tacky, busted up frame?  Of course not!  Do those brows!

I'm a serious believer in NOT over plucking, but having a clean, nicely arched brow.

First step... tweezing. You MUST have a great pair of tweezers. As far as I'm concerned, nothing will ever beat a set of Tweezerman Slant Tweezers.

Check out the fun designs they are coming up with!

Next, it is time to fill in, and define the brows. For awhile now I have been using Stila Brow Set with a slant brush.

And then setting the brow with M.A.C. Brow Set in clear, using a disposable mascara wand.

I have also recently found a new brow product that I am really loving. It is the LORAC Take a Brow (tee hee).

Not only does each kit come with two brow powders, it comes with a really cool brow wax that I am loving right now! Carol Shaw does it again!

Now for eye colors... I don't want to get too detailed with this, because honestly, I could go on forever and ever and ever. I'm a big fan of eye make up. You're eyes are supposed to be the window to your soul, so accentuate them!

I will tell you a few things... I don't believe in priming the eye lid with foundation. I think, if anything, this causes more creasing. Prime the lid with a nude shadow, it works much better.

My favorite kinds of eye shadow, in no particular order are...

Stila (although you have to be very careful with them, as they tend to break)

and

My favorite eye liners are...

Chanel Automatic Liquid Liner (A favorite of Lily Allen and Paul Starr.  I would also nominate this for a Nobel prize for make up, if such a thing existed...)

M.A.C. Eye Kohl (I love how BLACK the color "Smolder" is, and I love the texture of this liner. It is soooo blend-able!)

Lancôme Le Stylo Waterproof (again, very blendable and has a great powdery texture)

And last, but certainly not least... M.A.C. Fluidline (great colors and can also be used as a shadow if you're feeling adventurous)

Open those eyes!  Curl those lashes!
I recommend the shu uemura lash curler.

The M.A.C. full lash curler is pretty great too!

As for lashes, my favorite individual lashes are shu uemura flare lashes.

At $15 they are pretty pricey. If you're not willing to spend that much, the Ardell flare lashes are nice too.

As far as strip lashes go, I prefer the cheapies! My favorites are Ardell #116.

All of the Ardells are pretty great though!

Now for mascara... If I've ever done your make up, if you've seen me do make up, if you've just been in the same room with me, you know what I'm about to say... Lancôme Hypnôse!!!!

I love it, I swear by it, I stand by it, it's the best... what more can I say? Of course there are other great mascaras... this is my favorite!

To be continued...

Sweet Charity

Last night I donated my time for the Fredrick's of Hollywood Clothes off Our Back charity auction. Basically some celebrities like Gwen Stefani, Scarlett Johansson, and Beyonce designed corsets and they were auctioned off for charity at a big red carpet event in Hollywood.

Donald Simrock designed the make up look for the models:

Donald is a true artist. I saw this spread he did in Flaunt magazine a few years ago and it blew my mind!

I mean, seriously!

It was a pleasure working with him and watching him do make up. He was also a very sweet guy.

Here's the chaos backstage:

My friend Amber Kerns was doing hair:

Um... get off the phone Amber!

This looks like trouble!

This is the aftermath at my station:

Here's the finished product!

These are the two models I worked on...

Here's everybody with Dita! (She designed one of the corsets)

(can you guess which model went behind our backs and changed her lip color?)

P.S. On my way to the show I stopped off at CVS to pick up my favorite Ardell #116 lashes. Guess what, you guys... there is a special on Ardells at CVS. Buy one get one half off with your CVS card! Please believe I cleared them out of 116's, and if I had a basket I would have bought all their individual lashes too. Maybe I will go back today.
