Kabuki's background in textiles gives him a unique ability to work with texture. Like another favorite of mine, Pat McGrath, he often uses things that AREN'T "make up" to achieve a look.
Besides the amazing video I posted here, these are a few of my favorite images of his...
At the class we watched as Kabuki did three different make up looks. I always love to watch other make up artists work and see a different way of doing things, but this was BANANAS! At the end he took questions, and mostly people asked how he made the different pieces he used. Finally he said "you guys are gonna copy me!" Ha ha! I know how he feels! So on that note... make sure you are "inspired" by other's work, don't just copy it! :)
And a huuuuge THANK YOU to MAC cosmetics (and especially Monique Boyer!) for their support of the professional artist and for always helping to extend our education!

Thanks for sharing these amazing pics. as an artist thats still trying to find her feet when it comes to using colour it really makes me want to experiment more.
You should! I am OB-sessed with colour... I dream about it at night. Seriously.
Hi Amy
I posted about this when he did the show here in New York.
Wasn't it amazing and isn't he sweet!
It was so great! I didn't stick around to talk to him, but he seemed very humble.
