Our Lips Are Sealed

Recently I was a guest at a great party for L'Oreal Paris at the Four Seasons Hotel. I met up with my great, great friends, make up artist Mai Quynh, and beauty writer/owner of The Beauty Closet, Shannon Levy.

The champagne and Elnett flowed at the fancy celebration. Afterward, we made our way down to the restaurant to continue the party. When my lips were feeling dry, I reached in my purse and grabbed my Dior Lip Polish.


I had no idea what a stir I would cause at our table. Everyone wanted to know what I was using and were all captivated by the formula, and innovative rotating applicator!

Fast forward to Thursday... I met up with Shannon at the Laurel Tavern so she could do a Q&A with me for BE magazine. When I walked in to the low-lit bar, I couldn't help but notice she looked radiant. I was so distracted when she was talking to me, I finally asked "what lip gloss are you wearing?"... "The Dior gloss you showed me at the Four Seasons!" she gushed. She went on to say how much she loves loves LOVES it (and let me tell you, this girl KNOWS her beauty products!).

Come to find out, she had even blogged about it on the beauty blog she shares with Mai, Lip Gloss Chicas.

So adorbs! I love turning my friends on to great products!

Last Of The Independents

Since most bloggers are doing their Holiday shopping posts, I'm going to tell you some of my favorite indie spots to shop in LA.

First and foremost, The Beauty Closet.

This is the best little make up store in the Valley (possibly the planet), carrying all of my favorite high end beauty lines.

Pop Killer on Sunset

I find some really unique t-shirts and vintage items here!

Lemon Rags in Burbank

Another great place for cool t-shirts!

Kendo on Melrose.

I'm a sneaker freaker! I love cool trainers but I have tiny feet!  Usually I can't find the coolest ones in my size because they are only in mens sizes and my foot is actually a boys size.  Kendo is a shoe boutique for women and I'm obsessed!

Wax Poetic Salon in Burbank

Buy a gift certificate for a beauty treatment, or shop their boutique.  Lots of cool art, books, and beauty products.

Vromans Bookstore in Pasadena

This store has been in Pasadena since the 1800's!  (How crazy is that?) It has everything the big book retailers have plus really cool gifts.

Panty Raid

High end lingerie in Silver Lake.  Cute, cute store!

Lips Like Sugar

My latest obsession is The Lip Scrub by Sara Happ.

I picked it up over the weekend when I went to The Beauty Closet, and I'm ADDICTED!  I used to use a toothbrush to exfoliate my lips, but not anymore!  This is just too perfect!  I rub it on in a circular motion and then wipe it off.  (Ok, who am I kidding... I lick it off.  It's made of brown sugar! Sooo yum!) It keeps my lips feeling really really smooth!

It comes in a bunch of different yummy flavors like Brown Sugar, Vanilla Bean, Cocoa, Cinnamon Sugar and Peppermint!  

My favorite is Brown Sugar.  

The packaging is sooo to die for that it would make a great stocking stuffer!

Billy B is one of my favorite make up artists.

Billy B is the king of the music video, as well...  He has designed the make up on many of my favorite videos.  His detailed eye work is like, beyond beyond...

Earth shattering, no?

Well Billy B has designed the most amazing set of brushes.  They are absolutely worth every penny.  I would not lie to you about this.  I'm super picky about brushes, and this entire set BLOWS MY MIND!

You can buy the set, or buy them as individuals, but there is not one brush from the set that I think... "hmm, yeah, I could do without that one..."  NOT ONE!

You can really tell Billy B put a lot of thought into these brushes!  I really love the short handles. I have always preferred a short handled brush, it gives you so much more control. Brushes 8, 9, and 10 are my favorites. I also love the blush brushes. I think it is really hard to find a great blush brush and Billy B has managed to make 3 of them!

Billy B also has a fun little blog on his myspace. Can you believe that even a big artist like Billy B gets the occasional nightmare client!? Fun stuff!

This just might be the best day of your life...

There's this amazing little make up boutique here in The Valley (818, holla!) called The Beauty Closet. It's so great! It is one of my favorite places on earth!

They carry really high end, hard to find lines like Scott Barnes, Kevyn Aucoin, and Billy B Beauty (review of his brushes coming soon!). The store is really tiny (hence the name), so Shannon (the owner) is verrry selective about what they carry. Another amazing thing about the store is they offer a discount for professional make up artists (upon approval).



Well guess what!... Today they have launched their online store! Hooray! So amazing! Check it out, www.thebeautycloset.com. (So far, you can't use your make up artist discount on the site, but that could change...)

In the coming weeks I plan on giving you guys a little guided tour of the store (I think Annie and I are going to go shopping there and bring the video camera!), but for now, shop till ya drop! Lov ING it!
