Jah Provide The Bread

On Thursday I did Corinne Bailey Rae's makeup for her performance on The Tonight Show. Check it out!

(Makeup by me, Hair by Christian Marc.)

I get a lot of requests for makeup and beauty tips for women with darker skin tones, so here are some notes on the products I used to create the look.

For the complexion I used Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in #9 with a drop of #11 to keep the color warm.

I highlighted the apples of her cheeks with NARS Blush in Lovejoy

Her bold shadow shades were from the Chanel Eye Shadow Quad Murano

I lined her eyes with MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder

I then coated her lashes with MAC Opulash mascara, which is one of my new favorites...

On her lips I used NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Bahama

and topped it off with Chanel Hydramax + Active Lip Care to keep the lips hydrated and slightly glossy...

I finished off the look with a light dusting of MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder along the t-zone to prevent shine, but keep the skin looking fresh!

Hopefully these ideas inspire you with your own looks!

I want it, I want it

Check out Corinne Bailey Rae's new video for Closer, directed by Adria Petty.

I've worked with Corinne for years, and it was great to get to play with so many different looks.  My favorite was the coral lip we did with the silver dress.  I used NARS lipstick in Casablanca.

Check out this cool behind the scenes video... Lots of great beauty shots!

I'd Do It All Again

It was really exciting to wake up to this, this morning.

I worked on the cover art and all the press photos for the new Corinne Bailey Rae album that's out today. It's a great record so check it out!

Here's one of the shots we did on the cover of Billboard magazine.

Exciting!

Enchantment

I had a great day yesterday preparing Corinne Bailey Rae for the Grammys.  I think her make up looked awesome, and the whole look was amazing!  Check out that dress!!!

We went for something a bit edgier than usual and people are taking notice. Go to Bella Sugar to vote on whether you love it or hate it!

Award Tour

It's Grammy weekend and the fun has already begun!

Yesterday I was with Corinne Bailey Rae, getting her ready for the Music Cares event held at the Los Angeles convention center.

Corinne is nominated for the song of the year Grammy. The funny thing is, she didn't even know she was eligible this year, so the nomination came as a complete shock! Last year she was nominated for three Grammys and also performed on the show with John Mayer and John Legend. I was so lucky to get to go with her and watch the performance live. Check it out!

John Mayer had us cracking up at rehearsals. He asked me if I could make him look like Johnny Depp!

Work Hard, Play Hard

Sorry for my brief absence. I've been a busy little bee. I promise to make it up to you... Let's get down to business...

First of all, how great are my nails right now?

Ok, now that I've gotten that out of the way...

The Grammy announcements were yesterday and I am so happy that two of my favorite clients, Lily Allen

(photo by Patrick Fraser, make up by me!)

and Corinne Bailey Rae

(photo by Patrick Fraser, make up by me!)

were nominated for Grammy Awards!

Along with the Grammy nominations comes all the big parties.

I was so lucky to be invited to the official Grammy nomination party sponsored by People magazine and mark. cosmetics.

Not only does mark. make great make up, they throw an amazing party...

It was hosted by Fergie

With performances by Natasha Bedingfield

Ne-Yo

and Fall Out Boy

I saw some fun celebs like Emmy Rossum

The Pussycat Dolls

and Lauren Conrad and Lo from my favorite show "The Hills"... (Lauren is "the face" of mark.)

Party-goers got to get their make up done (including Carmit from PCD)

And there was a fun bar filled with mark. "hook ups" (I saw The Pussycat Dolls LOADING up on them!)

The best part of the night was watching Perez Hilton and The Pussycat Dolls dancing around to Fall Out Boy's "This Ain't A Scene, It's an Arms Race"...

Crazy crazy crazy fun night!

P.S. for everybody asking me about Lily Allen's blue nail varnish, it is "myrtille" by Sephora.

I'd Like To

One of my favorite things to do as a make up artist is music videos.  They are long days and a lot of hard work, but you usually get to be really creative.  Making the post about Corinne Bailey Rae at the Grammys made me think about a really cool video I did with her.

The song is called I'd Like To, and you can watch the video here.  I was so excited when I heard the concept of the video because we got to start with a glammed up fashion look and by the end of the video her look is very natural.

We did the video over two days.  The call times were so early that I was actually at Starbucks BEFORE THEY OPENED on both days! (You don't want to be around me when I haven't had my Americano! haha)

We had a great time, and if you look closely you can spot me during the BBQ scene (Corinne didn't think there were enough extras, so she had me jump in!)  You can also spot my favorite sunglasses on one of the extras!

Song Bird

The American Music Awards were last night and it was a reminder to me that the Grammy nominations will be announced next month. Last year the Grammy's were a whirlwind experience. A client of mine, Corinne Bailey Rae was nominated for three awards. Although she did not take home a trophy, it was amazing to create her red carpet and performance look. This is Corinne on the red carpet.

For The Love of Make Up did an excellent piece on how I created the look, so check it out (under Feb '07)!

After some of the awards were announced, Corinne met me back stage for a quick bump up on the eyes, and then gave an amazing performance!

Her look got rave reviews from beauty critics everywhere, and I'm sure there are many more Grammy nights in Corinne's future!
